Gemini
Add Everythings to Gemini as a custom app for Spark and sign in. Gemini can then search, read and, with your permission, write your workspaces and things. On a server or in a script, the Gemini CLI connects with an access token.
Before you start
Custom apps for Spark currently require all of these on the Google side:
- A personal Google account.
- The US region.
- Age 18+.
- Keep Activity turned on.
- English, for now.
You also need an Everythings account. The free plan works.
Connect in Gemini
Copy the Everythings MCP server address:
https://www.everythings.app/api/mcp
- At gemini.google.com, open Settings › Connected apps. You may need to pick Personal Intelligence first.
- Under Custom apps for Spark, click Add a custom app and paste the address.
- Click Next and follow the sign-in prompts.
These menu names are Google's, and Google moves them from time to time. If a step looks different, look for connected or custom apps in Gemini's settings.
Approve access
The sign-in opens an Everythings page titled Authorize access. Sign in to Everythings first if you aren't already.
- The page names the app asking and the Everythings account it will reach.
- Under It will be able to, it lists the access Gemini asked for: reading your things, workspaces and comments, and, with write access, creating, editing and deleting your things and comments.
- Press Approve to connect, or Deny to stop.
Read access lets Gemini search and read. Read & write adds creating, editing, moving, copying and deleting things (deletes go to Trash), plus comments, marks and asking you questions. The Tools reference lists every tool and the access it needs.
On your phone
Setting up a custom app happens on the web. Once Everythings is connected, it works in the Gemini mobile app too, with the same access you approved.
Gemini CLI
The Gemini CLI connects with an access token, for a run where nobody signs in. Create one under Settings › MCP Access Tokens and replace nthings_mcp_YOUR_TOKEN with it. Name the token after the agent, such as “Gemini CLI”, since the app labels its work with that name.
From the command line
gemini mcp add --transport http everythings https://www.everythings.app/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer nthings_mcp_YOUR_TOKEN"
Or in ~/.gemini/settings.json
{
"mcpServers": {
"everythings": {
"httpUrl": "https://www.everythings.app/api/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer nthings_mcp_YOUR_TOKEN" }
}
}
}Scopes, naming and revoking are covered in Access tokens & CLIs.
What Gemini receives
Gemini gets the same data every agent gets, as text: your workspaces, things, sub-things, marks, comments and any questions agents asked you. It answers from that text. The interactive view in the chat draws only in hosts that support MCP Apps, which today are claude.ai, Claude Desktop and ChatGPT on the web.
Everything Gemini writes carries its name in the app: ✦ and its name on a thing, “via” it on a comment, and “agent” after your name on a mark.
Disconnect
- In Everythings, open Settings › MCP Access Tokens and press Revoke on Gemini's OAuth: row, or on the token you made for the CLI.
- Remove Everythings from Gemini's connected apps, which tidies that list.
The first step alone disconnects Gemini: revoking its row ends every token the app holds for you, refresh tokens included, within a minute. A CLI token stops for good when you revoke it.
Questions
I can't find Custom apps for Spark. Why?
Custom apps for Spark currently require a personal Google account, the US region, age 18 or over, Keep Activity turned on, and English. Google also moves its menus from time to time; look under Settings › Connected apps, and pick Personal Intelligence first if Gemini offers it.
Do I need an access token for Gemini?
Only for the Gemini CLI. The Gemini app signs in to Everythings with OAuth, so there is nothing to copy. The CLI uses a token from Access tokens & CLIs.
Does it work in the Gemini app on my phone?
Yes. Set up the custom app once at gemini.google.com in a browser; after that Everythings works in the Gemini mobile app too.
Will Gemini draw my workspace as tiles?
Gemini receives every answer as text and replies from it. The interactive view in the chat draws in claude.ai, Claude Desktop and ChatGPT on the web.
Can Gemini delete my things?
With read & write access it can move a thing to Trash, where you can restore it. No tool empties Trash, deletes a thing for good or deletes a workspace: those stay actions you take in the app.
Is Everythings listed somewhere in Gemini?
Gemini has no directory to install it from. You add Everythings yourself, as a custom app for Spark or in the Gemini CLI, with the same MCP server address.
