Slack
Slackbot can call the Everythings tools. Create a small Slack app from the manifest below, turn it on in Slackbot, and ask about your things from any conversation.
Create the app
- 1. Open api.slack.com/apps and choose Create New App → From a manifest.
- 2. Pick your Slack workspace and paste this manifest:
{
"display_information": {
"name": "Everythings",
"description": "Lets Slackbot read and write your Everythings workspaces and things.",
"background_color": "#172554"
},
"features": {
"bot_user": {
"display_name": "Everythings",
"always_online": true
}
},
"oauth_config": {
"scopes": {
"bot": [
"mcp:connect"
]
}
},
"settings": {
"org_deploy_enabled": true,
"socket_mode_enabled": false,
"token_rotation_enabled": false
},
"mcp_servers": {
"everythings": {
"url": "https://www.everythings.app/api/mcp",
"auth_type": "dynamic_client_registration"
}
}
}- 3. Review and create the app, then install it to your Slack workspace under OAuth & Permissions.
You'll need an Everythings account (the free plan works) and permission to install apps in your Slack workspace.
Turn it on in Slackbot
- 1. Open Slackbot and press the Apps button.
- 2. Select Everythings.
- 3. Sign in to Everythings when asked and approve read-only or read & write access. There is no token to copy.
Things to try
“What's on my reading list in Everythings?”
Slackbot searches your things, reads the right one and answers in the conversation.
“Add milk and eggs to my groceries thing”
Slackbot finds your Groceries thing by name and appends the items to its list.
“Save a summary of this thread as a thing in my project workspace”
Slackbot writes a new thing with the outcome, so the decision outlives the thread.
Questions
What does the app do?
Nothing on its own. It tells Slackbot where the Everythings server is, and the mcp:connect scope lets Slackbot list the Everythings tools and call them when a request needs them. Slackbot uses the same tools as every other agent connected to Everythings.
Who can see my things?
Each person who turns the app on in Slackbot signs in to Everythings on their own and approves read-only or read & write access. Slackbot then reaches only that person's workspaces, as any agent they connect would.
Do I need a client id or secret?
No. Slackbot registers itself with the Everythings sign-in server when you first turn the app on, so the manifest carries only the server address.
How do I revoke access?
Turn the app off in Slackbot, or uninstall it from your Slack workspace, and revoke its access under Settings → MCP Access Tokens in Everythings.
Using Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini as well? The same server connects everywhere; see Connect AI agents.
