Notifications
Everythings tells you when something happens that involves you: someone adds to a shared workspace, comments on your thing, mentions you, or an agent you connected writes something or needs an answer.
You choose what reaches you separately for each workspace, and the same choice covers the web, your phone and Slack.
Where notifications arrive
One notification can reach you in up to three places. All three follow the choices you make per workspace.
🔔 The bell on the web
The bell sits at the top right, beside your picture, whenever it holds something. A badge counts your pending invitations plus the notifications you have not seen. Open it to see two lists:
- Invitations: workspaces someone invited you to, with Accept and Decline.
- Activity: your latest 30 notifications, newest first, each with how long ago it happened (“now”, “3m”, “4h”, “2d”). A dot marks the ones you have not seen.
Opening the bell marks everything read, on every device. Clear all empties the Activity list. The bell checks for new notifications every minute while the page is open.
📱 Push on your phone
With the phone app installed and signed in, notifications arrive as push notifications. The app asks for permission the first time you have something that can notify you: a workspace shared with someone else, or an agent connected to your account. It also asks when you tick a box on a workspace's Notifications tab and permission is still missing.
When several notifications for you are made at once, the phone shows the newest one. In the phone app, the bell in the workspace header holds only invitations; activity comes as push.
Direct messages in Slack
Choose what reaches you
Every workspace has its own switches, so a busy team workspace and a quiet personal one can behave differently. Each member sets their own; nobody else sees or changes them.
- Open the workspace switcher at the top left and press the gear beside the workspace.
- In Workspace Settings, choose the Notifications tab.
- Tick the kinds you want and untick the rest. Each tick saves at once; there is nothing else to press.
The phone app has the same tab, headed Notify me about, with a line under each switch saying what it covers. A choice made on one applies to the other.
Every kind
These are the eight switches, with the labels the app uses. Until you change anything, every kind is on except Edits and deletions.
| Switch | You are told when | Example | Starts |
|---|---|---|---|
| New things | Someone else adds a thing to the workspace. Several added at once arrive as one. | Ann added “Groceries” | On |
| Comments on my things | Someone else comments on a thing you created. | Ann commented on “Groceries” | On |
| Replies to my comments | Someone else replies to a comment you wrote. | Ann replied to your comment on “Groceries” | On |
| Mentions of me | Someone names you in a comment with @. It replaces the comment or reply notice for that comment. | Ann mentioned you on “Groceries” | On |
| Marks on my things | Someone else marks a thing you created. | Ann reacted ✅ to “Groceries” | On |
| Edits and deletions | Someone else changes or deletes any thing in the workspace, whoever created it. Fires on every save, so it starts off. | Ann edited “Groceries” | Off |
| My agent asks me a question | An agent asks a question on a thing in the workspace and waits for an answer. Everyone in the workspace who keeps this on is told, so anyone can answer. | Claude asks: Which store? | On |
| My agent creates or edits a thing | An agent connected to your account adds, changes or deletes a thing without asking first. | Claude edited “Groceries” | On |
Two kinds settle down on their own. Repeated edits of one thing by one person within 10 minutes notify once, and so do the marks one person leaves on one thing within 10 minutes.
Your own activity
You never hear about what you do yourself. Edits, comments and marks you make, on the web or the phone, notify only the other people they concern.
Why the two agent kinds break that rule
An agent you connect works through your account, so to Everythings its writes look like yours. Without an exception you could never hear about your own agent. The two agent switches exist for exactly that: My agent creates or edits a thing tells you what it wrote without asking, and My agent asks me a question tells you it is waiting for you. So even a workspace of one notifies you once an agent works in it.
Your agent's comments and marks
For the same reason, a comment or mark your agent leaves on a thing you created reaches you as an ordinary comment or mark notification, under the agent's name.
Shared workspaces
Agent writes say “via”
When a member's agent adds or edits things, the other members get the ordinary New things or Edits and deletions notification with the agent named at the end: “Ann added 3 things via Claude”. A comment or mark from an agent is announced under the agent's name: “Claude commented on …”.
Questions go to everyone
A question an agent asks in a shared workspace reaches every member who keeps My agent asks me a question on, and any of them can answer it. See Questions, inbox & @Agent.
Private marks send no mark notices
When the owner sets the workspace to show each person Only own marks (Workspace Settings › Default marks › Marks), nobody is told who marked their things, since that would show what the setting hides. The one exception is a mark your own agent leaves on your thing.
Mentions and @Agent
An @mention of you notifies you even on a thing someone else created. An @Agent job notifies nobody; the agent's reply when it is done reaches you as a reply. See Comments & mentions.
Opening a notification
Each notification takes you to what it is about.
| Notification | Opens |
|---|---|
| A new or edited thing, a mark, or an agent's question | The thing |
| A comment, a reply or a mention | The thing, with its comments already showing |
| Someone else's deletion | The workspace (the thing itself is in Trash) |
| An invitation | Accept or Decline right in the bell |
On the phone, tapping a push opens the app at the thing, or at the workspace for a deletion. In Slack, the card in the message has a button that opens the thing in Everythings.
Invitations
An invitation to a workspace arrives by email and, when you already have an account with that address, in the bell under Invitations.
Invitations ignore the per-workspace switches, since you are not in the workspace yet. They count in the bell's badge until you choose Accept or Decline, and they expire after 7 days. Details on Sharing a workspace.
Leaving a workspace
Notifications follow membership. Leave a workspace, or be removed from it, and you stop receiving its notifications.
The workspace's earlier notifications also disappear from your bell, since they name things you can no longer open. If you are added back, they show again.

Questions
Why don't I see the bell?
The bell appears only when it has something to show: an invitation or at least one notification. Guests in a sandbox never see it, since guest accounts receive no notifications.
I'm alone in my workspace. Will I get anything?
Only from your agents. Your own actions never notify you, so a workspace of one stays quiet until an agent connected to your account writes there or asks you something.
My phone doesn't buzz.
Check that notifications are allowed for Everythings in your phone's settings. If they are blocked, ticking a box on a workspace's Notifications tab in the app says so: they will only show on the web until you allow them. Then check that the kind you expect is ticked for that workspace, and remember that your own actions never notify you.
Can I turn everything off for one workspace?
Yes. Untick every box on that workspace's Notifications tab. Your other workspaces keep their own choices.
Do I get an email for each notification?
No. Notifications arrive in the bell, as push on the phone, and in Slack if you turned that on. Email is used for invitations and account messages such as confirming your address.
How do I clear the bell?
Opening it marks everything read and clears the count. Clear all next to Activity empties the list for good, on every device. Invitations stay until you accept or decline them.
