Settings
Settings holds everything tied to your account: your name, how the app looks on this device, how the editor saves, your AI key, the tokens your agents use, Slack, and the account itself.
Open it from the account menu: click your picture at the top right of any page and choose Settings, or go straight to /settings.
The account menu
The round picture at the top right of every signed-in page opens the account menu. The 🔔 bell beside it holds your notifications and invitations; see Notifications.
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Sun and moon switch | Flips this device between the light and dark theme. |
| Settings | Opens the Settings page described below. |
| Billing | Opens the Billing & Plan page with your plan, usage and locked workspaces. See Plans & limits. |
| Sign Out | Signs you out and returns you to the home page. |
The picture comes from your sign-in provider when it supplies one, such as Google. Otherwise a plain avatar shows.
Trying the app as a guest through try it without an account? The account menu shows no Settings or Billing, and there is no bell, until you choose Sign up in the bar at the top of the page. See Getting started.
Looking for one workspace's settings (its look, Agent Instructions, Default marks, Members or Notifications)? Those open from the gear beside the workspace in the workspace switcher. See Workspaces.
Signing in and out
Ways to sign in
The home page offers Continue with Google, Continue with Apple and Continue with email. Apple works in any browser on the web. Email takes you to the Sign In page: enter your Email and Password and click Sign in. Use the same method each time and you reach the same account on the web and the phone.
Create an account
Google and Apple create your account the first time you continue with them. For an email account, choose Sign up and fill in Full Name, Email, Password and Password Confirmation on the Sign Up page. A password needs at least 8 characters with a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter and a digit. Everythings then emails you a link to verify the address.
Forgot your password
- On the Sign In page, click Forgot password?
- Enter your email and click Send link.
- Open the link in the email Everythings sends you.
- On Reset Password, enter the new password in Password and Password Confirmation, then click Update password.
- You are signed out. Sign in again with the new password.
The same steps change a password you still know. Each link works once; if it has expired or was already used, the home page says so and you can ask for a new one.
Sign out
Choose Sign Out in the account menu. On the phone, choose Sign out in its account menu or Sign Out at the bottom of your Profile, and that phone stops receiving your push notifications.
Profile, appearance and editor
Profile
Your display name is the name other people see on your comments, your marks and the workspace invitations you send. It can differ from the name on your Google or Apple account and holds up to 100 characters. Type it and click Save Name; your new name shows from then on.
Appearance
Choose Light, Dark or System, which follows your device's setting. The choice applies to this browser on this device, so another computer or the phone keeps its own. The sun and moon switch in the account menu flips the same setting.
Editor
Auto-save is on unless you turn it off. While it is on, your edits to a thing save as you type. With it off, a Save button appears while you edit, and Ctrl+Enter saves too. The setting belongs to your account, so it applies on the web and the phone alike. See Writing content.
AI Provider
AI Mode runs on your own API key from OpenAI or Anthropic, on every plan. Everythings encrypts the key before storing it and never shares it.
- Under AI Provider, choose OpenAI or Anthropic.
- Paste your key and click Save Key. OpenAI keys start with
sk-; Anthropic keys start withsk-ant-.
What the key turns on
With a key saved, the search field gets an AI Mode tab, and wider screens get a Voice assistant button at the bottom right (Ctrl+Shift+V). Both stay hidden until a key is saved. In AI Mode you type or say what you want and the assistant reads and changes your things for you. Requests go to your provider on your key, so your provider bills them. See Find things.
Replace or remove the key
With a key saved, the card says so. Paste a new key over it and click Save Key to replace it, or click Remove Key to delete it. Removing it hides AI Mode again.
Where to get a key
The ? beside the title opens the AI Key Setup Guide, with steps for platform.openai.com and console.anthropic.com. Both providers need billing or credits on your account before a key works.
OpenAI key for dictation
Dictation in the editor can use a separate OpenAI key. Paste it under OpenAI key for dictation and click Save Dictation Key; Clear removes it. Without it, dictation uses your main key when OpenAI is your provider, and your browser's own speech recognition otherwise. The phone always dictates on the device.
Your key belongs to your account: save it on the web or on the phone's Profile and AI Mode turns on in both.
MCP Access Tokens
This card lists every way an agent can reach your workspaces over MCP, and makes tokens for agents that cannot sign in themselves. The ? beside the title opens a short integration guide.
Most agents need no token: Claude, ChatGPT and the Claude Code plugin connect by signing in to Everythings. Start at Connect an agent.
What the list shows
Each active token shows its name, read only or read & write, and when it was last used, or never used. An agent you connected by signing in appears as OAuth: followed by the agent's name. It renews its access from time to time, so it can leave more than one row.
Create a token
- Type a name that says where the token will live, such as
Claude Desktop. - Choose Read only or Read & write.
- Click Create token.
- Copy the token from the box that appears. It is shown once, so store it somewhere safe right away.
Then add it to your agent: see Access tokens & CLIs.
Revoke a token
Click the trash icon beside a row. The token stops working within a minute. For an agent you connected by signing in, revoking its OAuth: row also ends its refresh token, so the agent is disconnected; removing Everythings from that agent's connector settings afterwards only tidies its list.
Slack
The Slack card appears once your Slack account is linked to Everythings. You link it from Slack: the first time you paste a thing link there, Slack offers Connect your Everythings account. See Slack.
The card names the Slack workspace where your account is linked. Turn on Send my notifications to Slack to get the notifications you receive in Everythings as direct messages from the Everythings app in Slack, alongside the phone's push notifications. What reaches you still follows each workspace's Notifications tab; see Notifications.
Delete account
Deleting your account is immediate and permanent. Nothing can be restored afterwards.
- In Settings, under Delete account, click Delete my account.
- Type
DELETEin the box. - Click Delete account. You are signed out.
What is deleted
- Your account and profile.
- Every workspace you own, with all its things, comments and marks, for everyone you shared it with.
- The images and files you uploaded.
- Your comments and marks in workspaces other people own, and the things you created there. Sub-things other people added under those things move to the top level of that workspace.
- Your access tokens, API keys and connected agents.
- Your membership in workspaces others shared with you.
The Delete your account page lists what is kept, such as billing records, and for how long.
Your subscription
A Plus subscription paid by card is canceled for you. One bought through the App Store or Google Play must be canceled in your device's subscription settings.
Own a shared workspace that others still use? Hand it to one of them first with Make owner on its Members tab, and it stays for them. See Sharing a workspace.
On the phone
In the phone app, tap your picture at the top right of a workspace for the account menu: System, Light and Dark set the theme on that phone, Settings opens your Profile, and Sign out signs you out. Most account settings live in both places.

Questions
How do I change my password?
Use the reset link: on the Sign In page click Forgot password?, or open Reset Password directly, and follow the email. It works the same whether you forgot your password or just want a new one.
Who sees my display name?
The people in workspaces you share. It appears on your comments, on the marks you leave and on invitations you send.
Why don't I see AI Mode?
AI Mode appears once you save an API key under AI Provider. Without a key the AI Mode tab and the Voice assistant button stay hidden, on every plan.
Is my API key safe?
Everythings encrypts the key before storing it and never shows it to you or anyone else again. Requests made with it go to your provider and are billed by them. Remove Key deletes it at any time, and you can also revoke it at your provider.
I lost an access token I created. Can I see it again?
No. A token is shown once, when you create it. Revoke the lost one with the trash icon beside it and create a new one.
Why is there no Slack card in my Settings?
The card appears after you connect your Slack account from Slack. Paste a thing link in Slack and follow Connect your Everythings account. See Slack.
Can I undo deleting my account?
No. Deletion is immediate and permanent. If you only want to stop paying, cancel Plus from Billing instead and keep your account on Free.
